IMPROVEMENT AUTHORITY CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY
The
Cumberland County Improvement Authority celebrated
their first anniversary of the opening of their new
offices in the historic Millville National Bank Building
on Friday, June 20, 2003. The celebration was part
of the Millville Arts District’s monthly Third
Friday celebration. The galleries and merchants along
High Street stay open late during Third Friday events
allowing individuals who are unable to visit the
Arts District during normal business hours the opportunity
to visit the shops, meet the artists, and enjoy the
many paintings and other pieces of art on display.
“As part of the bank building restoration, we created areas on the first
floor where local artists from the Arts District can display their work,” said
Steven R. Wymbs, Improvement Authority Executive Director. “These areas
in the building are open to the public during the monthly Third Friday events.”
The carnival-like atmosphere included a street vendor giving out hot dogs and
hot pretzels, a caricature artist, a clown who made balloon animals for the kids,
and fresh popcorn. An Employees Gallery was added to the displayed art created
by our own employees and their family members.
“The Cumberland County Improvement Authority has been and continues to
be an invaluable partner with the County and our municipalities on a variety
of important projects,” said Donna Pearson, Freeholder Director and Improvement
Authority Freeholder Liaison. “The result of the Millville Bank Building
restoration speaks for itself. In addition to a historic landmark in the City
of Millville being saved, the building’s restoration is a catalyst for
continued downtown development. Congratulations on your one year anniversary.” |
