Annual Waterways Cleanup

The Cumberland County Improvement Authority (CCIA) hosts its 26th Annual Waterways Cleanup event on Saturday, September 30.  The event administered by the Cumberland County Clean Communities Program is open to community members and groups to participate.  It is being held in conjunction with the annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) event where volunteers worldwide will clean litter and debris from lakes, streams, rivers, bays and beaches this week.

Registration is required for all volunteers.  Registration forms are to be submitted no later than Wednesday, September 20. Participants are welcome to choose their favorite waterway cleanup site to clear their chosen area of trash and unwanted debris.  Designated collection site information will be distributed to all who register. Free giveaways and supplies needed for safe trash collection will be provided as part of this community event.

“Water is a natural resource that we all must safeguard.  The CCIA sponsors this event each year so that we can make people more aware of our need to clear our water resources of harmful and unsightly trash,” Cumberland County Clean Communities Coordinator Anthony Riviera explained. “The Authority is proud to be leading this community cleanup effort to promote awareness and accountability for protecting and preserving the environment
