RECYCLING PROTECTS THE ENVIRONMENT
•The more you recycle, the longer our landfill will last.
•Recycling reduces air and water pollution and conserves water.
•Recycling saves energy – recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run your television for three hours.
Recycling is easy!! The following is a list of things that CAN and CAN’T be recycled.
THINGS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED…
•PAPER - newspaper, office and school paper, unwanted mail, phone books, magazines, catalogs
•ALUMINUM AND STEEL/TIN FOOD AND BEVERAGE CANS – empty non-hazardous aerosols also
•GLASS BOTTLES AND JARS
•PLASTIC BOTTLES - with #1 or #2 on the bottom
THINGS THAT CAN’T BE RECYCLED…
•NO foil and foil coated items
•NO wax coated boxes or cartons
•NO food contaminated boxes
•NO hardback books
•NO plastic bags, pails, trays, tubs, lids
•NO mugs, glasses, vases, bulbs
•NO motor oil, lubricants, paint and pesticide containers
SOME TIPS FOR PROPER RECYCLING…
•BOTTLES & CANS
•Rinse clean - to conserve water, rinse with leftover dishwater.
•Throw plastic bags, caps and lids into the garbage containers.
•Keep glass from breaking.
•Don’t crush cans.
•PAPER & CARDBOARD
•Keep plastic bags out of all recycling containers.
•Flatten cardboard boxes – call for a drop-off location near you.
•Remove wood, styrofoam and plastic before recycling your cardboard boxes.
REASONS WHY RECYCLING IS GOOD FOR YOUR APARTMENT COMPLEX…
•Recycling helps control your rent costs.
•The more garbage that you create, the higher your rent will be.
•The less garbage that you create, the less your landlord has to spend on garbage disposal.
•This leaves more money available for improvements and maintenance.
•Recycling is good for the environment, good for your neighborhood and good for your pocketbook!
Apartment complexes not recycling may be fined and that cost will ultimately be paid by you!
