OFFICE RECYCLING

Many businesses throughout Cumberland County have found that recycling actually reduces the cost of doing business while offering an alternative to disposing of unavoidable waste.  Businesses are incorporating recycling and waste prevention opportunities and finding that they oftentimes offer impressive dividends.

The most effective way to reduce your company's waste is to generate less in the first place.  Your company can adopt a wide range of waste prevention strategies including using or manufacturing minimal packaging; using and maintaining durable equipment and supplies; reusing products and supplies; using supplies and materials more efficiently; and eliminating unnecessary items.

Recycling offers businesses a way to avoid disposing of the waste that cannot be prevented.  To begin a step-by-step recycling program, you first need to put someone in charge to develop the procedures for the program, and to identify recyclable items at your business.  The Cumberland County Improvement Authority can help you with this by conducting a waste assessment. After this is completed, you can select a recycling company or hauler, organize the collection process, communicate the importance of recycling to your employees, and publicize your success.

For more information about waste prevention and recycling programs, or to schedule a free waste assessment, contact the Cumberland County Improvement Authority at 825-3700.
