FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
November 8, 2007
TAKE THE “AMERICA
RECYCLES DAY” PLEDGE
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ: November 15 is America Recycles Day,
and to celebrate the Cumberland County Improvement Authority
is asking everyone to renew their commitment to recycling.
We need your help to keep Cumberland County the number one
recycling County in New Jersey.
Your participation in County-wide recycling programs is important.
Even a small shift in attitudes and actions, multiplied many
times over by others doing the same thing, can make a huge
difference. As a way to get started, take just five minutes
to re-evaluate your recycling routine to see if you can do
more.
For example, instead of throwing cardboard out with your trash
bring it to one of the eight convenient Improvement Authority
sponsored drop-off locations located throughout the County.
Take the opportunity to volunteer for one of our Public Lands
Cleanups, or consider Adopting-A-Road in your community. When
you go shopping, buy products that use recyclable packaging
or are made from recyclable materials. Whatever you decide,
it’s easier, now more than ever, to make a difference.
Remember, recycling saves energy and reduces greenhouse gas
emissions that cause global warming. In fact, according to
the National Recycling Council, if the recycling rate for
aluminum and steel cans, plastic PET and glass containers,
newsprint, and corrugated packaging were to increase a mere
10%, an additional 3.9 million tons of materials would be
recycled, saving enough energy to:
- Heat 1.5 million American homes for one year.
- Provide the required electricity to 1.8 million Americans
for one year.
- Save Americans about $957 million in avoided costs for barrels
of crude oil.
With the involvement and enthusiasm of everyone in Cumberland
County, we can keep the recycling momentum moving forward.
To learn more about all of the free recycling programs available
to residents in Cumberland County, call the Improvement Authority
at 825-3700 or visit our Web site at www.ccia-net.com.
