FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

IMPROVEMENT AUTHORITY EMPLOYEE TAKES SECOND IN REGIONAL ROAD-E-O COMPETITION

MILLVILLE, NJ: Cumberland County Improvement Authority employee Tony Riveria recently took second place in the Roll-Off Division at the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Road-E-O, which was held at the Cape May Municipal Utilities Authority in Woodbine. The event brought together operators and drivers from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey to compete for awards and an invitation to the National Competition.

“At its heart, the Road-E-O is a community outreach event that brings together families, co-workers, and professionals in the solid waste industry,” said Bob Pollock, Cumberland County Solid Waste Facility Complex Manager. “The Road-E-O tests drivers’ abilities through a standard obstacle course on a variety of different pieces of equipment including rear loaders, automatic/side loaders, front-end loaders, transfer tractor/trailors, roll off container loaders, track/loader dozers, landfill compactors, scrapers, and articulated front wheel loaders.”

“The event was really a lot of fun,” Riveria said. “Not only do you get to meet individuals in the solid waste industry from throughout the country, you get to test your skills against them. It is a very friendly but competitive competition.” Tony’s second place finish in the regional’s qualified him to participate in the national competition.

For over 41 years, SWANA has been the leading source of information and training for solid waste professionals. The Association serves over 7,200 members throughout North America, and thousands more through conferences, certifications, publications, and technical training courses. SWANA has previously recognized the Cumberland County Improvement Authority for operating the best Class B Landfill in North America.

“The Cumberland County Improvement Authority supports the efforts of SWANA in their active promotion of sound solid waste management policies while implementing strategies to advance these positions,” said Steven R. Wymbs, Cumberland County Improvement Authority Executive Director and New Jersey International Board Representative of SWANA. “Their mission of education, innovation, and communication is helping to advance the solid waste industry and to identify emerging technologies for the future.”
