DONATE
UNWANTED ITEMS
Buying,
selling, and donating used items reduces waste and promotes
recycling. There are many organizations that distribute
durable goods in usable condition. Some of these organizations
offer pick up services, others provide collection containers or provide resale
facilities. You can also buy or sell unwanted items through
classified ads, community bulletin boards, consignment shops,
and yard sales.
Many
organizations such as schools, churches, YMCA's, Big Brothers/Big
Sisters, senior citizen centers, and social service organizations
have needs for such things as clothing, food, appliances,
toys, office equipment, books, and audio-visual equipment.
They would be glad to have items in good working condition.
You will be saving valuable landfill space as well as precious
natural resources while helping someone in need.
You
can cut down on the amount of disposable materials by choosing
products carefully when you shop. Also, keep in mind that
everyday items can have more than one use, and more than
one user. For instance, after reading a book or magazine,
you can give it to someone else like a friend, nursing home,
or hospital.
